Although Dutch, Edsger Dijkstra was a longtime professor at UT Austin. He is known for lots of pioneering work in algorithms. In 1959 he devised an efficient shortest-path algorithm called ``Dijkstra's Algorithm''. Despite the name, he continued to write many more algorithms until he retired in 2000. He won a Turing Award, the top prize in computer science, in 1972. The award is named after CS pioneer Alan Turing.
